What are ELL and CLD Assessments?

Most practitioners know when a student does not speak English fluently, we need to alter assessment methods, use translators, and think flexibly.

What if we think about more than language fluency?

An ELL and CLD assessment looks at the whole student, and the interplay of culture, language and access related to their school performance.

An ELL/CLD assessment goes beyond a simple cognitive/academic assessment, and will consider: home language fluency, English instruction exposure, home language academic access, immigration history, cultural norms, family practices, cultural demands, nonverbal abilities, adaptive skills, medical history, as well as cultural/religious views towards education and disability.
